30 sec Film Task

For 2 weeks we have been assigned to make a film up to 30 - 35 seconds, with the help of Chris, Benjamen, and Tobey. Our short film is about a junior sneaking into the learning commons on a fine day but then gets caught by a teacher. Something I enjoyed making in the film was editing, I was enjoying it because it was so much fun learning how to add music, sound effects, and zoom in's. Some film techniques were some camera shots and lighting/color. Something challenging was to trim the parts we need to make it a 30 - 35-second film. Something I would do differently was to probably add another scene and add another sound effect to the gunshot.

What am I learning: I'm learning to recognize the development of characters in films.

How does this show my learning: This shows my learning by giving you the challenges Coraline and The Beldam had to face and reaction to it.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning: I'm wondering how long it took to make these two characters/personalities of these characters.

How does this work show my learning?: this explained my learning because I had explained most of the plot points in this film giving some extra predictions on what the audience might feel.

Music

Chords - Major - written in a major key, happy tone

SEXXXY Paragraph 

In this shot of Coraline also with the cat, the lighting and colour are used effectively to show the theme, that looks can be deceiving. This is demonstrated by lighting and colour and with the wide shot, it makes the audience feel that they don't want to be to that place because it is cold and cloudy. This is used by the lighting and colour. The director's purpose was to make the real world seem boring and empty but safe for Coraline. This shows looks can be deceiving because the other world is nice and warm but dangerous while the other is boring and empty but safe.

Workshop 3: How does 'Lighting & Color' enhance the story?

Lighting: natural - produced in nature, often sun, moon stars

            artificial - man-made light, usually electrical

Workshop 2: Linking themes to the impact of Angles, Movement and shots

Angle & Movements

* High angle - makes the character 'other Whybie' look small, weak, and vulnerable.

* POV - Other Mother - dominant & powerful

* Medium shot - gives us some idea of background but not full.

* Audience feels - powerful, we are looking down on Wybie through Other Mothers POV.

- Sad/worried for Wybie - he looks small, sad, innocent

- The first character in the 'other world' to suggest something is not right. 

* Directors Purpose - makes us feel sorry for Wybie.

- makes the audience think that maybe the Other Mother isn't so nice - foreshadowing. 

S.E.X.X.X.Y Paragraph

In the shot with the other Wybie and the Other Mother, high angle shots are used effectively to show the theme 'looks can be deceiving! This is demonstrated through a high angle shot from the Other Mother. She is looking down the front porch steps at a scared other Wybie. This makes the audience feel sorry for Wybie and makes the Other Mother seem powerful. The purpose of this scene was to make the audience think that maybe the Other Mother isn't so nice after all. Combined with the use of lighting, Wybie is in a warm light but surrounded by darkness, the director has created an atmosphere of caution- something is not right. This reminds the viewer of a later scene where Coraline is looking up at the Other Mother in horror as she throws her through a magical portal into a locked room. This shows that looks can be deceiving because the Other Mother wasn't nice like Coraline's first thought.

In this shot with Coraline and the doll that 'The Real Wybie' has given to her was moved behind the dresser with its head rotated making it the perspective of the doll seemed like something odd is happening
